As I've written before, we're not really into Valentine's Day around here. It feels sort of forced to celebrate on a day so commercially-oriented. But the spirit moved me today, and I made John a valentine anyway. Not just any valentine, though... a zombie valentine. I can't take credit for the images on the card-- they're from here and here and here. This valentine is comprised entirely of recycled file folders and paper and (because I couldn't find regular glue) wood glue. It's not falling apart anytime soon. Those who know John will be unsurprised to hear that he really liked this gift.

Zombie Sock Monkeys in Love (or, Why I Love My Sister-in-Law)

My husband and his brother and sisters are all a bit obsessed with monkeys. Okay, a lot obsessed with monkeys. As I've mentioned elsewhere, my husband is also a fan of zombies. So what could be more perfect than a zombie sock monkey? Well, how about two zombie sock monkeys, given as an engagement present?
Ginny did a fabulous job of creating realistic-looking brains and wounds. As you can see, we definitely share a love of crafting. I married into the right family, I guess. :)

Squirrel Zombies & Sleigh Bells

When my siblings and I were little, my mom made us ornate Christmas stockings from those kits that always catch my eye at the craft store. They're more traditional than my usual crafting fare, but when my husband and I spent our first Christmas together (after being together 6+ years-- the long-term impact of what began as a bicoastal relationship) in 2006, I knew he had to have one too. My nod to his love of the macabre can be found if you look closely at the squirrel. It has red fangs.
